Lunar Excursion Module Familiarization Manual

An original LEM Lunar Excursion Module Familiarization Manual from Grumman dated 15 March 1965 and containing about 150 heavier than normal pages in five sections.  The section heading are Mission Description, LEM Structure, Operational Subsystems, Prelaunch Operations and Ground Support Equipment.  Loaded with plenty of illustrations and many foldouts.  This was the earliest LEM Familiarization Manual to be published by Grumman.  The front and back covers are dinged along the right edges from use, but the pages inside are in great condition.  Rare.

A vintage Laser Ranging Retro-Reflector Familiarization Manual in a loose-leaf notebook prepared by Bendix and dated 15 August 1970 (revised 1 May 1971).  The notebook consists of about 35-40 pages of illustrations and information.  The LRRR was part of the ALSEP package to be deployed by the Apollo 15 astronauts.  Rare and in great shape.

A vintage Apollo ALSEP Grenade Launch Assembly Test Set Instructions Manual in a loose-leaf notebook prepared by Bendix and dated 1 February 1969.  The notebook consists of about 30 pages of foldouts, illustrations and information.  Additionally, there are about 20 photos is the back.  The Grenade Launch Assembly Test Set was part of the ALSEP package to be deployed by future Apollo astronauts.  Rare and in great shape.

A vintage 8"x 10" NASA/Grumman Apollo Lunar Module transparency booklet with six pages of LM transparencies.  When each is laid on top of one another, more LM systems can be seen and the LM slowly builds up to completion.  There is a corner crease in the front cover (it does not go into the transparencies), but otherwise nice shape.  Uncommon.

Lunar Surface Sample Collection Bag

A 7½"x 8" plastic lunar sample collection bag of the type actually used on the lunar surface by the astronauts.  I have provided a photo of Charlie Duke on the lunar surface collecting a rock sample using a bag of this type.  The bag has an aluminum rim for easy opening and closing.  Excellent condition and quite uncommon.

Lunar Surface Sample Collection Bag For Scoop

An original 5"x 5" cylindrical plastic lunar material collection bag of the type actually used on the lunar surface by the astronauts. I have provided a photo showing an Apollo 12 astronaut on the lunar surface near the cylindrical case where these plastic bags were stored for easy access - the aluminum 'flags' can be seen sticking out the slot. This bag was used in training and has an aluminum rim to facilitate easy opening and closing, and are numbered for later determining when and where a sample was scooped. Most times these bags were fitted on the end of a long scoop so the astronaut wouldn't have to leave the rover to collect a sample. More photos of this type of bag in use will appear when the auction lots are moved over to Proxibid. Nice condition and quite uncommon.

An early and complete Lunar Excursion Module Familiarization Manual from Grumman dated 1 September 1966. It consists of probably 500+ pages including a large amount of foldouts examining the systems of the LEM.  The Table of Contents lists 13 sections and an Appendix.  The sections include General Information, Subsystems Data, Controls and Displays, Operational Data, Crew Personal Equipment, Contingency procedures, maintenance Procedures and more.  Yellowed with age and used at the time with some notes and sketches inside, but looks to still be in nice shape.  A rare and early Lunar Module document.

Apollo SC-014 Operational Plan Manual, October 1966

An Integrated Verification And Operational Plan for Spacecraft 014 manual with seven tabbed sections and about 50 pages including many foldouts.  Tabbed sections include General, Backup Plan, Hardware Configuration , etc.  S/C-014 was the Block I sister ship of the Apollo 1 command module and was disassembled during the fire investigation.  The tabs are a bit worn but still good shape.

Apollo 8 Hasselblad First Run Film In Canister

A canister of first-run developed 70-mm color film from the Apollo 8 onboard Hasselblad camera.  The developed film in this particular canister was delivered to NASA on January 3, 1969, only a week after the mission.  The canister is 3-1/2" diameter and 3" tall and the film roll fits snugly inside.  A sheet lists all the photo numbers and provides captions for all the photos taken by the Apollo 8 crew during the flight with that camera.  It includes the famous Earthrise shot and many lunar surface shots.  Uncommon and excellent condition.

It contains about 260 pages of LM Normal and Backup Procedures and Contingency procedures, all of which is contained in those 2 sections.  This Lunar Module handbook is still in nice shape inside, but the front cover has some staining and a couple dings from use.  LM-3 was a Lunar Module used for the Apollo 9 mission.  Quite a rare manual.  The consignor's name has been covered for the auction photograph.

Alan Bean's Apollo 9 LM Code Book

Alan Bean's personal Sundance Code Book from Grumman, 4"x 7" in size, and consisting of 178 pages of Lunar Module computer information, such as alarm codes, inputs, outputs, flagwords, conversion tables, etc.  Sundance was the name of the program run on the Lunar Module Guidance conputer for LM-3, which was the designated LM for Apollo 9.  Bean was the LMP backup for Apollo 9, and the Sundance program version was not used again after the Apollo 9 mission.  Excellent condition.  Bean's name is engraved on the front vinyl cover.

Apollo 11 Data Card Book With Notations + Four Que Cards 

An original 8½"x 10½" Apollo 11 LM Data Card Book, along with four Apollo 11 Lunar Module cue cards, used by the crew of Apollo 11 in training.  All the pages are dated anywhere feom mid June 1969 to early July 1969, and the book consists of 9 labeled tabs with 11 mostly two-sided heavy paper stock pages of data entry including DOI Data Card, Lunar Surface Align, Ascent Phasing and many more.  Heavily used in training in the Lunar Module Simulator and several of the pages show loads of penciled in data entry either by Armstrong or Aldrin.  Training books such as this were not commercially available and were made in very limited quantities.  Rare.

In addition to the Data Card book, this lot contains four Lunar Module cue cards - each with velcro on one side for attachment to the LM panels for quick reference.  The cards all basically measure 8"x 10" in size and included are a LM Phasing Reference Trajectory and what looks like three different CSM/LM ingress and egress checklist and timeline cards.  These cards are not dated but come with a letter from the consignor attesting to the fact that they were used for Apollo 11 training.  Heavily used condition and rare.

Apollo 13 Telemetry & Flight Program Report, Vol I & II

Two 8½"x 11" manuals "Telemetry And Flight Program Report - Luminary" Volumes I and II, prepared by NASA for the Apollo 13 mission, and they are dated 2 March 1970.  They each consist of probably 50-60 pages with many tabbed sections.  Volume I deals with Expanded Checklists, Nouns and Alarm Codes, and Volume II deals with E-Memory, Downlink Telemetry, Padloads, and SSR Displays.  The purpose of these manual is to assist the AGC Staff Support personnel, who support the Guidance Officer, during the mission.  Luminary was the name of the computer program run on the Lunar Module AGC (Apollo Guidance Computer).  Volume one is discolored on the cover from age and its tabs are wirn from use, but is still in good shape inside.  Volume II is nice shape all around, but does have some bent tabs from use.  Quite uncommon.

Apollo 13 LM Orbit Monitor Circular Chart

A vintage Apollo 13 circular Orbit Monitor Chart. The lunar chart measures 10½"x 160" (over 13 feet long) and is circular in nature, meaning the two ends have been taped together to make one, long continuos chart. The chart shows the Apollo 13 landing site in the Fra Mauro region as well as hand-written Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 landing sites.  Additionally scores of craters and landmarks are shown along with and the PDI approach of the LM. The map is a first edition dated 1 March 1970, for an April 11 launch.  Used condition with some of the edges being worn and quite uncommon.

An Apollo 13 Lunar Orbital Science Contingency Flight Chart measuring approximately 12"x 60" if laid out.  The chart is a circular chart with its two ends taped together to form an endless flip reference.  The chart shows hundreds of landmark craters by name and number, orbital tracks, Control and Initial Points, Photographic Opportunities and much more.  Nice condition and uncommon.

Apollo 13 LM Ascent Monitoring Chart

A vintage, heavy plastic 8"x 10" sheet Apollo 13 LM Ascent Monitoring Chart lunar map dated 1 March 1970 for an April 11 launch.  It is two-sided and the front shows the Apollo 13 landing site in the Fra Mauro region and the course the LM will take after liftoff up to the 5-minute mark.  The reverse shows the continued ascent until the 7-minute mark.  Used in training and in the LMS (Lunar Module Simulator).  Excellent condition.

LM-8 Apollo 14 Apollo Operations Handbook

An original Lunar Module 8 and 9 Apollo Operations Handbook from Grumman and is dated 5 December 1970.  The one is Volume II which deals with Operational Procedures.  It contains about 500-600 pages of LM Procedures which are contained in two main sections, with many subsections.  The two major sections are Normal/Backup Procedures and Contingency procedures.  Subsections for the first include Prelaunch Closeout Check, SubsystemG&C Reference Modes, Thrust, Staging and more.  This AOH manual is bound by a string and has some stains on the front page, but looks to still be in nice shape - ready to put into a binder.  LM-8 was the Lunar Module used on the Apollo 14 mission and LM-9 is on display at KSC - it did not meet the upgrade requirements for the rover missions.  Quite uncommon.

Apollo 14 Flight Mission Rules, Final

A thick Apollo 14 Final Mission Rules manual dated 11-1-70 probably about 250-300 pages.  It has been tied up with a string at the time, and its difficult to see inside.  However, by looking at the section dividers, it looks to have about 15 sections.  Some age spotting on the cover, but still good shape and very uncommon.

Apollo 14 Lunar Surface Procedures Manual, Final

An original 8½"x 11" Final Apollo 14 Lunar Surface Procedures manual from MSC and dated December 31, 1970.  It contains 5 sections with a total of about 170 pages.  The section headings are Introduction, Mission Description, Nominal Lunar Surface EVA, Contingent Plans and Appendix.  This manual contains much information such as EVA timelines and EVA timeline foldouts, traverse and geological maps, a lunar surface activities foldout, a Mobile Equipment Transporter foldout and much more.  Used at the time and it has some age faults, but overall still in good shape.  Rare.

Apollo 14 Lunar Module Descent/Ascent Procedures

An original 8½"x 11" Apollo 14 LM Descent/Ascent Procedures booklet (the H-3 mission was Apollo 14) dated December 29, 1970 from MSC.  It contains about 40 pages of charts and procedures.  There are five total sections including Powered Descent, Powered Descent Aborts and Powered Ascent.  Overall nice shape.  The consigner's name has been covered over for the photograph.

Jim Irwin Signed Lunar Surface Photo

An 8"x 10" color photo of Apollo 15 astronaut Jim Irwin on the moon, and signed nicely by him.  There is also a printed-on inscription.  Excellent condition.  This does not seem to be a standard litho, but a little thicker version - possibly a batch made up by Irwin himself.

Ken Mattingly's Apollo 13 Panoramic Camera Familiarization Manual dated 15 June 1970 from Itek.  It contains nearly 300 pages about the camera, and has Mattingly's mail code and name written on the top right corner.  Used at the time, but still in good shape.

Apollo 16 Lunar Module Post Landing Star Chart

An 8-1/4" diameter Apollo 16 Lunar Module Post-Landing star chart consisting of a black star disc below and a semi-transparent rotating disc above. The rings on the outer disc signify what stars would be seen through the Optical Telescope at certain times during the stay on the moon. Star charts like this were used on every lunar landing mission to orient the LM just prior to liftoff. The star chart is dated March 6, 1972 for a launch date of April 16, 1972 (the Apollo 16 actual launch date), and was to be used in case the Lunar Module had to leave the moon's surface immediately after landing. Each Lunar Module carried two similar star charts - this one for an immediate liftoff, and another for liftoff after the stars had precessed across the sky during their stay on the moon. This star chart was used in the Lunar Module Simulator and was no doubt handled by Young and Duke during their training.  There is a slight bend line in the top plastic disc no doubt made there in order to more clearly see the disc underneath.  Nice condition otherwise and extremely uncommon.
